Desgracia by Kate Durbin

"I am broken. But I am happy as long as I can paint." —Frida Kahlo

Night Visitor, by Leni Friedland
"Night Visitor"
by Leni Friedland

The man had gold dust in his
hand, glowing like a yellow torch. Up in air
like firing rising, sparkling sand. Then descending,
singeing
hair,
bone.

Butterflies on my broken body,
green, white, red.

Paintbrush in my hand,
precarious,                                        my flight.

She likes to think of herself as a "desert rat," as she gets cold anytime the temperature outside drops below 80. She has just recently started submitting her poetry to journals; her poem entitled "The Fifth Gospel" won the annual St. Mary of Magdala poetry contest. EMAIL: xcornflakegirlx@yahoo.com
