Dancing like a gypsy across the
sapphire tile of a sunny afternoon,
a honey bee found me dining with
friends on the terrace of a mountain
café and delivered her message
not once, but twice, hovering less
than an inch from my eyelids, nose,
mouth, caressing my neck with the
whir of her wings, while Carl coached,
"Stay still, and she'll fly away," but
she didn't, for broken connections
must be mended; and after the earth
had plucked my attention like the
trembled petals of a flower, Tom
reached beneath the devout napkin
of stillness to touch my hand,
signaling the bee's departure, and
he said, "You can breathe now."
